Scholarship Amount:  $1,000

Eligibility Criteria:  The focus of the scholarship committee will be the students who are participative in community/school involvement and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above.  Complete rules and regulations are available online.

Undergraduate Scholarship from the National Restaurant Association

Scholarship Amount:  $2,000

Deadline:  October 12, 2007

Eligibility Criteria:  This scholarship, offered by the National Restaurant Association, is available to high school seniors with a minimum 2.75 GPA who have taken at least one food service-related course.

Horatio Alger Scholarship

Scholarship Amount:  $2,500 - $20,000

Scholarship Amount:  50 Scholarships of $20,000 and 200 Scholarships of $10,000

NOVEMBER DEADLINES

 

VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition

Scholarship Amount:  $30,000 for 1st place and additional scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $16,000

Deadline:  November 1, 2007

Eligibility Criteria:  An audio-essay contest for high school students in grades 9-12 that annually provides more than $3 million in scholarships. The first-place winner, who competes with all the first-place VFW Department winners, receives a $30,000 scholarship that is paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school.  Besides competing for the top scholarship prize, as well as other national scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $16,000, each Department's first-place winner receives an all-expense-paid trip to Washington , D.C.

The First Freedom Student Competition

Scholarship Amount:  $3,000, $1,500, and $750

Deadline:  November 26, 2007 (online registration – required) and December 1, 2007 (official entry form – required)

Eligibility Criteria:  A national essay contest that offers 9th to 12th grade students an opportunity to express their views on religious freedom, its history, its current importance, and its relevance in their lives.  Students must complete both the online registration and official entry form.

Tennessee Concrete Association Essay Contest

Scholarship Amount:  1st Place ($250), 2nd Place ($150), and 3rd Place ($100).  The first place winner will be entered in the national contest and have a chance to win a $5,000 scholarship.

Deadline:  To Be Announced (entries must be submitted to TN Concrete Association's Office)

Eligibility Criteria:  Contest is open to students ages 16-18.  Students must submit an essay based on one of the contest’s topics.

Stokes Educational Scholarship Program

Scholarship Amount:  Full Tuition for the College of Your Choice

Eligibility Criteria:  Student must be a high school senior and plan to major in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics.  College Sophomores majoring in certain Foreign Languages may also apply.  Students must also b a U.S. Citizen, score at least a 25 on the ACT or 1600 on the SAT (1100 Critical Reading and Math, 500 in Writing), have at least a 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate leadership abilities.

Toyota Community Scholars

Scholarship Amount:  $10,000 and $20,000

Deadline:  Schools must nominate student by December 1, 2007 (see your guidance counselor early!)

Eligibility Criteria:  Student must be a high school senior with a GPA of 3.0 or better, be actively involved in a service organization or project that has a positive impact on the school or community, be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or U.S. Permanent Resident, and plan to pursue an undergraduate degree at an accredited 4-year college or university in the U.S.

Authors of Tomorrow Scholarship

Scholarship Amount:  Up to $10,000

Deadline:  December 1, 2007

Eligibility Criteria:  Student must be an 11th or 12th grade student and submit an essay (of no more than 500 words) on one of the following topics:

Topic #1: If you were to set up a personal museum of the most significant objects you own, what would you include? and why?

Topic #2: If you could take one entire year off from your responsibilities of school and/or work, how would you spend that year? Explain why you would make these choices.

Topic #3: Recent elections have been characterized by small turnouts of eligible voters. Some democracies require their citizens to vote. Do you think this is a good or bad policy?

Topic #4: If you had a household robot to do one single task for you everyday, what would that task be? and why?

2007 SAE Engineering Scholarships

Scholarship Amount:  $1,000 - $10,000

Deadline:  December 1, 2007

Eligibility Criteria:  All applicants must intend to enroll in an engineering program accredited by ABET, be a citizen of the United States at the date of application, be a high school senior at the time of application (Sept. 1 - Dec. 1), and meet minimum requirements with regard to grade point average, SAT I and/or ACT scores as outlined in the individual requirements of each scholarship.  See website for additional scholarship opportunities.

Eligibility Criteria:  Students who apply must be a United States citizen or permanent resident with a minimum 2.5 GPA. In addition, students applying are required to complete a 50 to 200 word essay about who has had the greatest impact on your life, and a 50 to 200 word essay on what you hope to achieve in your personal and professional life after completing college. Burger King Scholarship

Scholarship Amount:  $1,000 (1,600 scholarships given)

Eligibility Criteria:  Graduating seniors with a GPA of 2.5 or higher who work an average of 15 hours per week; 40 weeks per year (part-time, year round).  Students must also participate in volunteer services as well as demonstrate financial need.

National Wild Turkey Federation’s Academic Scholarship Program

Scholarship Amount:  $250

Deadline:  January 1, 2008

Eligibility Criteria:  Eligible students must be a senior, have a hunting license, and plan to go to college in the Fall.

Tennessee High School Oratorical Scholarship Program

Scholarship Amount:  1st - $3,000, 2nd - $2,000, and 3rd - $1,000 (State Competition)

Deadline:  January 9, 2008

Eligibility Criteria:  The main purpose of the National High School Oratorical Contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship. You are eligible to participate if you are a citizen and a lawful resident of Tennessee and are a bona fide student under the age of 20 years on the date of the National Oratorical Contest and are in grades 9 through 12 of a school in Tennessee .  State winners may advance to National Competition (Prizes for National Competition:  1st - $18,000, 2nd - $16,000, and 3rd - $14,000).  (State winners who participate in the first round of the National Competition will receive a $1,500 scholarship.)

Davidson Fellows

Scholarship Amount:  $10,000 to $50,000

Deadline:  January 14, 2008 and March 26, 2008 *Deadline varies depending on category in which you are applying.  Visit website for details.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for the Davidson Fellows Scholarship, an applicant must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen residing in the United States , or a Permanent Resident of the United States  residing in the United States .
  • Be under the age of 18 years as of October 1, 2007 . Applicants born on or before October 1, 1989 are not eligible.
  • Have completed a significant piece of work in one of the submission categories.
  • Be able to demonstrate that the work is his or her own creation.
  • Be able to attend, with at least one parent or guardian, the awards reception in Washington , D.C.

Elks Foundation – Most Valuable Student Scholarship

Scholarship Amount:  $1,000 - $15,000

Eligibility Criteria:  High school senior who is a citizen of the United States . Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.  Applicants will be judged on financial need, leadership, and scholarship.

Elks Foundation – The Legacy Award

Scholarship Amount:  $1,000

Deadline:  January 11, 2008

Eligibility Criteria: 

Any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2004, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2004, is eligible to apply. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2007 . Great-grandchildren are not eligible.

The applicant must be a high school senior.

The applicant must apply through the related member's Elks Lodge, regardless of where the applicant resides.

If the applicant's parent and grandparent are both Elk members, the applicant must apply through the parent's Elks Lodge.

Students may apply for more than one Enf scholarship; however, they may win only one. In cases where the student qualifies for more than one, we will award the scholarship with the greater value.

Legacy Awards may only be applied to accredited US American schools, colleges or universities. (Note: Applicants from Guam , Panama , Puerto Rico and the Philippines may apply Legacy Awards toward schools, colleges or universities in their respective homes.)

Applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test or the American College Test by December 31, 2006 .

Eligibility Criteria:  Students are who are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American, are a citizen/legal permanent resident of the U.S., have a GPA of 3.3, will be entering a U.S. accredited college or university as full-time, degree seeking freshmen in the Fall of 2006, have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities, and meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.

Scholarship Amount:  $1,000

Eligibility Criteria:   Student must not be a Wal-Mart associate or immediate relative, they must be a Senior, graduating high school in spring 2006 OR have GED equivalency (see application for details), be a permanent resident of the U.S (for at least one year), have proof of SAT or ACT test scores, can prove financial need by required documents, and can prove at least a 2.5 Cumulative GPA. Walmart Associate Scholarship

Scholarship Amount:  $2,000

Deadline:  January 14, 2008

Eligibility Criteria:   Available to high school/home school seniors graduating between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008 or students who have obtained their GED and would have graduated high school between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008 . Must either be actively employed with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for at least six consecutive months as of April 25, 2008 -OR- May be a dependent of a Wal-Mart Associate who does not qualify for the WALTON Family Foundation Scholarship due to the Associate-parent’s part-time status or actively employed less than twelve consecutive months as of April 25, 2008.

Must have scored at least an 18 Composite ACT or 800 SAT (Critical Reading or Verbal + Math) scores.  Must be enrolled full time (at least 12 college credit hours) in the fall 2008 semester and the spring 2009 semester.

Eligibility Criteria:  Must have graduated high school/home school by August 1, 2007 , or have obtained their GED and would have graduated high school before August 1, 2007 . Must be employed part-time or full-time with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for at least six consecutive months as of April 25, 2008 . Must have “on target” or “above target” on the last performance evaluation. May attend individual classes or seek an undergraduate or graduate degree to be eligible. Must enroll in at least three college credit hours in the fall 2008 semester and three college credit hours in the spring 2009 semester. Payments are based on the following criteria of enrolled hours:  3-6 credit hours per semester $500, 7-11 credit hours per semester $750, 12+ credit hours per semester $1,000

Walton Family Foundation Scholarship

Scholarship Amount:  $10,000

Deadline:  January 14, 2008

Eligibility Criteria:  Available to high school/home school seniors graduating between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008 or students who have obtained their GED and would have graduated high school between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008 . The applicant’s parent/legal guardian must be an active full-time Associate with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for at least twelve consecutive months as of April 25, 2008 . Applicant must have scored at least 22 Composite ACT or 1030 SAT (Critical Reading or Verbal + Math) scores. Applicant must be enrolled in a full time (At least 12 college credit hours) undergraduate degree program beginning in the fall 2008 semester and all subsequent semesters during the tenure of this program. Applicants planning to attend two-year institutions must agree in writing to transfer to a four-year institution by the beginning of the third academic year. Recipients are required to maintain a 3.0 term grade point average [GPA] in at least 12 earned college credit hours per semester, send term grade transcripts immediately upon completion of each term, and notify the Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club Foundation of changes affecting the payment process to maintain eligibility.

Scholarship Amount:  10 - $25,000 scholarships and up to 300 - $2,500 scholarships

Eligibility Criteria:  Any current high school junior who meets the following qualifications is eligible: Is enrolled in an accredited public or private high school in the United States, Has at least 2.75 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale for the 9th and 10th grades, Demonstrates accomplishments in Leadership and Community Service and has faced a significant roadblock or challenge.  MUST BE A HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR!

McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship

Scholarship Amount:  $40,000 ($10,000 per year for 4 years)

Deadline:  January 31, 2008

Eligibility Criteria:  Available to seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own business while in high school.  To qualify student must graduate in high school in the Spring of 2007, attend a 4 year college or university within the U.S., own and operate a genuine business (non-profits are eligible), have at least one employee (even if only part-time), and complete online application by January 31, 2007 deadline.
